Botox® injections are very popular for the treatment of certain facial wrinkles, including the frown lines, forehead creases, and “crow’s feet”. Unlike fillers, Botox® acts by paralyzing the affected muscles. Botox® is non-surgical, is relatively painless, and there is no anesthesia required. Effects are dramatic, and in some cases it may also help ease or eliminate tension headaches.
Botox® is administered in a very diluted form using fine needle injections. The onset of action is not immediate, but can take up to 10 days. The duration lasts about 3-4 months, but repeated injections may prolong the duration.
After the Botox® injections, one can return to work immediately. It is important not to lie down for at least 4 hours after the injections.
The effect of Botox® is quite dramatic in minimizing or eliminating facial creases, especially considering that no surgery is done. There is evidence to suggest that with repeated injections over time the effect may last longer.
