Liposuction for Men
Many men have trouble getting rid of fat in certain areas. If this describes you, liposuction may be the perfect choice for you. During this procedure, localized fat deposits are removed using fine tubes called cannulas applied to a suction pump via very small incisions. Popular areas for liposuction include: face and neck, arms, back, breasts, abdomen, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles. Prior to liposuction surgery you will undergo a thorough physical examination, along with blood tests and photos, to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure.
Liposuction is performed in a surgical facility, usually under general anesthesia. Some cases may be performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation. We use the tumescent liposuction technique for men. This consists of a dilute anesthetic solution mixed with epinephrine. This allows the extraction of large amounts of fat because of decreased blood loss. Multiple areas can usually be done at the same time.
Following liposuction, you will be wearing a girdle for one-two weeks and then beginning a course of massage or ultrasound treatment, which are performed at our office. These post-op measures help to expedite the healing process. Exercise can begin in a limited fashion after two weeks. Patients can usually return to work in a few days to one week.
